CP Olokode Lied, It Was Not A Metal Scratch But Bullet Wound - The Nation Reporter, Toba Adedeji Said (Photos)

The Osun State Police Command had on Wednesday debunk the report of a police officer shooting The Nation Newspaper reporter, Toba Adedeji on the 31st of May 2022 at Ola-Iya axis of Osogbo.

The report was debunked by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode while featuring on a radio station program in Osogbo on Wednesday and through a press release by the Command which was signed by PPRO Opalola Yemisi.

The report reads in part;

"The CP instituted an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting of the journalist.

The outcome of which was supported by the medical report from  Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, revealed that the injury sustained by the Journalist was not a bullet wound as widely and erroneously reported by a group of journalists, but a scratch from metal object, causing injury that was treated and patient discharged in less than five hours."

However, Toba Adedeji while reacting to this made it known that the statement by the CP are all lies.

Below is the full statement from Toba;

This reaction becomes imperative following the non admittance of the police over the unfortunate incident and claims of the Commisioner of Police, Olawale Olokode during a radio programme in Osogbo on Wednesday that it was not a bullet but a mere metal scratch.

I want to state it emphatically here that CP Olokode lied. 

He said when he came to pay me visit at home that I told him that I was not shot, this lie and it is so unfortunate, coming from a senior police officer because we never had such discussion but I told him that I was shot at the scene by policemen led by DPO Oyegade of Dugbe police station. 

In fact, he was trying to change the narrative as he told me that the police and hoodlums had shoot out at the scene but I refuted the claim saying there was no confrontation with the protesters that warranted shooting that day. He could not talk till he left my house that day. 

The outburst of lies by the Osun State police further entrench that police should not be trusted for any reasons because the people of the state are not safe again. 

Residents of Osun fear policemen more than they fear armed robbers. 

I want to state it clearly that, While I was being treated at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo the CP called some of my colleagues on phone at the hospital and started appealing that we should kill the story saying he was wrongly briefed over the matter.

When he was summoned to Abuja headquarters of police, he visited the NUJ national chairman that he should direct his member to stop reports on the matter. 

As far as my treatment is concerned at UNIOSUNTH, I never told them at the hospital that it was not gunshot. 

If gunshots were not fired on that day, why will I be running from from the scene. 

My demands

1. The police leadership must provide those officers who   shot me that day as I identified the Divisional Police Officer of Dugbe, Oyegade as the leader of the squad. 

2. The Commissioner of Police should tender a public apology for lying that I told him that I was not shot but sustained mere injury. He must retract the statement which are all lies against my personality. 

3. The Police in Osun has lost its leadership and IGP must look for a way to address this before another wind of #EndSARS take over the state.  

4. The strange faces that has been trailing me to hospital since the issue happened must also be checked by Directorate of State Services and other security agencies. 

5. There should be independent investigation into the alleged medical report which the CP claimed was obtained from UNIOSUNTH with a view to finding out the author of the said report.

6 The consultant in charge of Accident and emergency unit of the Hospital, Dr Ogungbemi and the Doctor that treated me, apart from the questions asked me also interviewed my colleagues, who were eye witnesses to ascertain my story over the incident.

It is important we unravel the mystery behind the said medical report because the integrity of the hospital is at stake. If an incident that happened less than a kilometer from UNIOSUNTH and some hospital personnel also confirmed to us that they heard  gunshots and the purported report Olokode is parading indicated that I fell and injured myself, then the members of the public may become suspicious of goings on in the hospital.

Toba when contacted by DaOptimistic Info further noted that all the CP's claims are all lies that the said wound is not a scratch from a metal object but a bullet wound. 

"I don’t expect less from the police, lies is part of their tradition. The wound was stitched in seven places, besides, was there any endangering iron at open Ola-Iya road?" He said.
